First, I didn't know basketball was still happening, so that tells you how little I know about the NBA (or the NHL or MLS or many other team sports). Second, I'm not sure I understand how to apply the defense (see first point) questions in my leadership. I'm a baseball person. Defense is getting outs, so pitching and fielding, but those aren't 'little things'. There are nine people on defense at the same time, whereas there are only one to four people on offense (batter and base runners). So the analogy breaks down based on my lack of understanding of basketball. Can you explain the focus on defense a bit more (without the basketball analogy)? Thanks!

actually I kind of like the baseball metaphor for the same idea. The things one does on baseball on defense are the little things you mention, and eliminating errors might not be fancy or highlight-worthy grand slams but those things matter and win championships.

in a similar vein, the pitcher gets the credit for a shut-out--but often times there are key little plays by the team to ensure those outs get sealed up, right? I am not a baseball fan but that's similar.

BTW: the "defense wins championships" thing is more NFL based than NBA.

Based on that analysis, who ya got in the Finals and in how many games?

I don’t have a favorite and just want it to go as deep into 7 games as possible. But my hunch is that if it can be won in game 6 the Mavs will close out. But if it goes to game 7 Boston will overcome. Either outcome is a fun story from my seat.
