As I have now turned 62 and full retirement age is 5 years away - I feel that I am currently in stage 3 - I feel like I have faithfully run the race - I have gone where God has called me to go, continue to lead a church...but I have been thinking about what it means to finish well lately...perhaps I am now transitioning between running faithfully and finishing well.
So funny story...there was a time in my life that I was a runner...I miss those days...but one of the things that has always plagued me during running were the trips and falls. Over the last 15 years, I have tripped and fallen while running or walking 6 or 7 times - creating all kinds of road rash, etc. Tripping over your own two feet is real...my desire in my life is not to trip over my own two feet as I transition from running faithfully to finishing well.
When I was a runner I ran several 5K's, I think about 5 half-marathons, and one marathon. The marathon gave new meaning to being all in...All I did that year...it feels like was run and train.
Definitely feel my husband and I are in the 3rd leg. Working hard to steward well what was entrusted to us. I also believe we are not far from the handoff. Doing our best with our Lord's help to finish well and leave a blessing for our successors. Thank you for this post. It is a blessing as usual.
I'm in the finisher stage, and want to do it well. And I am grateful for those who handed the baton to me.
Amen!
